Stamping processing is a production technology that utilizes the power of conventional or specialized stamping equipment to directly deform the sheet metal in the mold, thereby obtaining product parts with a certain shape, size, and performance. Sheet metal, molds, and equipment are the three essential elements of stamping processing. Stamping processing is a method of metal cold deformation processing. So, it is called cold stamping or sheet metal stamping, abbreviated as stamping. It is one of the main methods of metal plastic processing (or pressure processing) and also belongs to material forming engineering technology.
Compared with other methods of mechanical and plastic processing, stamping has many unique advantages in both technology and economy.
The main manifestations are as follows:
1. Stamping processing has high production efficiency, convenient operation, and is easy to achieve mechanization and automation. This is because stamping relies on stamping dies and stamping equipment to complete the processing. The number of strokes of a regular press can reach dozens of times per minute, while high-speed pressure can reach hundreds or even thousands of times per minute, and each stamping stroke may result in a stamped part.
2. During stamping, because the die ensures the size and shape accuracy of the stamping part, and generally does not damage the surface quality of the stamping part, and the life of the die is generally long, the stamping quality is stable, the interchangeability is good, and the stamping is "exactly the same".
3. Stamping can process parts with a large size range and complex shapes, such as small stopwatches for clocks, large car longitudinal beams, covers, etc. In addition, the cold deformation hardening effect of the material during stamping results in high strength and stiffness.
4. Stamping generally does not generate chips or debris, consumes less material, and does not require other heating equipment, making it a material saving and energy-saving processing method with lower costs for stamped parts.
